Supporting LGBTQ Youth Through SBHCs

During the month of June, people around the world celebrate Pride Month. An important month for the LGBTQ community and their allies, Pride Month is marked by parades, abounding rainbow decorations, and outward expressions of solidarity. However, LGBTQ youth need support well beyond the month of June and school-based health providers are uniquely positioned and trained to provide that support.

School-based health center (SBHC) providers Veronique Sage Van Leuven (mental health therapist) and Shoshana Mirel (nurse practitioner) from Kaiser Permanente’s Aki Kurose Wellness Center spoke with Q13 News in June 2019 about how they support LGBTQ youth at their middle school and beyond.
