Washington State has one of the highest rates of school absenteeism in our nation, and King County is no exception. Chronic absenteeism is one of the strongest predictors of high school drop out, even as early as the primary grades.
September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we invite you to join this kickoff event on June 7, 9:30-11:30am to start planning activities. This year’s presentations will highlight local efforts on family engagement and communication strategies, including social media. Following the presentations, you can participate in small groups to co-plan activities or in discussions with community partners where YOU determine what to talk about.
Come in person and participate in the discussions and co-planning after the presentations. Bring your team and partners! Or you can watch the presentations remotely via a webcast. This is event is for all types of community partners, including K-12, Youth Development, Early Learning, Health, Businesses, Parent and Cultural Groups. We all have an important role in helping families and schools in reducing absences.
Please see the invitation (attached and below), and apologies for cross-postings. Light refreshments will be provided. Please forward to others in your community – all are welcome.
For registration or more information, contact Cara Ianni at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you there!
