Over the next few months we will be highlighting our brand new clinics in King County that are funded through the Best Starts for Kids Levy. In this installment, we are excited to introduce you to the new school-based health center on Vashon Island!
The Vashon SBHC is operated by Neighborcare Health and will be the thirteenth comprehensive SBHC operated by the organization. It will be housed at Vashon Island High School and will also serve students at McMurray Middle School and Chautauqua Elementary. Opening the first day of school in the 2017-2018 schoolyear, the clinic has served over 60 students in its first two months and provided nearly 150 visits!
The team is growing and acclimating to their temporary space and new school district colleagues. Outreach has been a primary focus and they have already been featured in parent communications and in the high school newspaper, The Riptide. Oral health services will also start in early November with their first screening day, followed by additional services later on in the year. And most importantly, they will be moving into their permanent space in a few short months!
Welcome, Vashon SBHC team! We look forward to seeing your program grow.
